Barbell Plate Calculator

Enter a target weight and see exactly which plates to load on each side of the bar.

Load per side of the bar:

How to load a barbell

  1. Subtract the bar weight from your target weight.
  2. Divide what's left by two — that's the load for one side.
  3. Load the largest plates first, then work down to the small change plates.
  4. Mirror the same plates on the other side.

This calculator assumes standard kg plates (25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25) or lb plates (45, 35, 25, 10, 5, 2.5).
